Fudge Chocolate

Few things in this world are as delicious as a piece of fudge. It's sweet, chocolatey, indulgent and the perfect dessert. But what's even better than plain old fudge? Fudge combinations!

In this blog post, we will explore the history of fudge and explore some of the best fudge combinations of all time.

The History of Fudge

fudge history

We know that fudge is eternally popular today, but where did it come from? Well, there's not a huge amount of information on who invented fudge, but we can trace its beginnings back to the late 1800s.

A written reference to fudge was from a student at the prestigious Vassar school in Baltimore. She noted that her friend's cousin had created fudge and sold it at a fundraiser, so we know that the confectionery was relatively new but can't say exactly who invented it.

Some also believe that fudge is a Scottish treat 'Tablet' predecessor. It's harder in texture and slightly grainier but was around in the 1700s.

Soon, students would begin creating fudge in Baltimore, and the tradition spread around the world, with different regions using a mixture of ingredients.

How is Fudge Made?

So what is fudge, exactly? Fudge is a soft candy made from sugar, butter, and milk. Confectioners often add chocolate, vanilla, nuts, and other flavourings.

Most people use condensed milk to make fudge because it's easier to maintain the right consistency, whereas regular milk can mean confectioners under or overcook the fudge.

Once the mixture is the right consistency, it's then poured into a pan and left to cool until it becomes firm.

Fudge can be made in most kitchens with just a few simple ingredients, but many people prefer to buy it because fudge is relatively cheap, and confectioners know how to make it.

Chocolate Orange Fudge

Chocolate orange has become popular over the years as a choice for chocolate lovers who want something different. According to your preferences, you can use either natural or synthetic flavouring for this one. If you'd like a more natural taste, you could consider using pomegranate instead of oranges.

Chocolate Pistachio Fudge

Chocolate and pistachio is another delicious combination. Many people think that pistachios taste great with chocolate, and there's a reason for this. They work well together, as the nuttiness of the pistachio compliments the creaminess of the chocolate perfectly.

Chocolate Chip Fudge

This is another classic fudge flavour that you can't go wrong with. We love adding extra chips to our chocolate chip fudges to make them even more tantalisingly tasty. Chocolate Coconut Fudge This one is a bit of an acquired taste, but we love it. The coconut flavour goes well with chocolate and creates something truly unique.

Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge

Chocolate hazelnuts are great for those who enjoy nutty flavours in their desserts. The caramelised hazelnuts work perfectly alongside the chocolate fudge to create a treat that's as indulgent as it gets. They're also very moreish, so you might want to stock up on these if you've got guests coming over.

Creamy Flavoured Combinations

There's nothing like enjoying your favourite treat smothered in cream, is there? From strawberries and cream to peaches and cream and everything in between, cream and sweet things just make sense together.

Vanilla Fudge

Vanilla flavoured combinations include vanilla fudge and some other flavours such as strawberry or caramel, which are commonly associated with being 'vanilla' in nature but have subtle differences.

Clotted Cream Fudge
